Let us Be the Change!

Freebies, Election, Shame…

It is really painful to see our Tamilnadu Election 2011 political parties interest to bribe (freebies offered) the voters for their own benefit.

The freebie drama began in Tamil Nadu when film script writer turned politician Karunanidhi promised free color televisions and so on in 2006 TN Election.

Now both DMK and AIADMK – are offering: 35 kg free rice every month to families below poverty line (DMK) or 20 kg rice to all ration card holders (AIADMK), 20 litres of free drinking water daily to poor families, mixers, grinders, fans, houses at subsidised cost (DMK) or free modern, green homes of 300 sq ft, costing Rs 1.8 lakh each to three lakh poor families (AIADMK), laptops, gold, 60,000 cows and sheep.

What a shame…!!! It is crystal clear from their statement that politicians have thought that they could easily fool people.

These freebies are really a big shame to a democratic country. Freebies , undoubtedly make people idle and it halts nation’s development.

People should understand that where the money comes from and how the expenses are compensated after the leaders get elected to power.

Out of above all, Election commission is taking real good steps to seal illegal activities. Lets join hands with them and bring our nation into lead. Salute to Election Commission!

Talking Advertisement – Volkswagen and TOI

Today morning, when readers of The Times of India and The Hindu opened the newspaper, they were in for a surprise.

The supplement of the main paper carried a ‘talking’ advertisement of Volkswagen, which plays a recorded voice when a reader opens the page.
It came as a surprise to many and soon Twitter and Facebook were full of comments, from awe at something so “innovative” to despair at a “lame” attempt.

While it reminded some of the musical greeting cards by Archies — a craze in India in the early years of this decade, others felt the commercial ridiculed the experience of reading a newspaper.

But, whatever feedback the advertisers and the newspaper get from readers, it surely signifies a new era in Indian advertising — one in which companies have realised India’s potential as a lucrative fast-growth story, leading them to innovate and lavishly spend on advertising.

The emerging Indian middle-class is fast turning into a bunch of brand-conscious individuals, and having realised that, companies are opening up their wallets.

Now with the financial crisis mostly behind us, people can hope to see more innovation in advertising, as companies look for newer ways to lure consumers.

The question though is whether Indians will welcome such convergence of media, especially in advertising.

As noted humorist Anand Ramachandran wrote on his Twitter account, “Did TOI really think that their readers are so dumb, they can’t read? A print ad with a voice-over that won’t shut up? Where’s my hammer?”

Though sometimes I feel, people will remember the media innovations much more than the brand!

Tamilnadu Election

The last phase of election that includes Tamilnadu, the decider of the whole NATION is on 13th of MAY. All the so called political leaders are trying their level best to woo the voters with freebies and blah blah to vote for them.

But before you go to cast your vote just think about this two important facts,

  • Power cuts throughout Tamilnadu since Last Summer
  • Sharp Rise in price of essential Commodities

Every one in Tamilnadu felt the bite of the power cuts starting from last summer. Its a year since it started and has become a never ending story. Its still common in almost all the districts other than chennai to live with atleast 2 to 4 hours of power cuts a day.

The good thing for the government is that people have stopped complaining about this. They take it lightly similar to late running of buses or traffic jams. They have accepted power cuts as part of their life.  But we people are not asking our rights for the right thing in the right manner.

The next big thing is rise in the price of essential commodities. Price of Rice has gone up substantially in one year – from Rs.18 to Rs.40 per KG.  I am talking about price of normal rice, packed rice etc in any of the retail shops in Tamil Nadu.

The surprise point is No newspaper is reporting it, no news channels reporting it. Even the political parties who are bothered about Lok Sabha election votes are not exploiting it !

So people, please think these basic facts before you cast your vote. Happy Voting for the first timers.

Bandh in TN yesterday

Being an ordinary citizen of India, i feel really sad for the horrible face of Tamilnadu in hands of our Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi, who always think about himself and his family members.

Yesterday was a “General Bandh” that was called by the ruling DMK party for the Srilankan tamils cause and to pressurize the Central government to announce cease fire in Srilanka. I don’t know how this old man thinks, who is a pain to himself and whole of the nation.

Everytime i want to avoid commenting about him, but he keeps doing things like this that makes me scream at him. I really had some respect for his age and his tamil literature but with each passing day his activities makes me angry and his unskilfulness is becoming intolerable. The latest of his incapability is announcement of this bandh.

First thing, I dont know how this will pressurize the central government in which all the leaders were running to capture the seats. How much effect will it have in Srilanka? If he has that much concerned means he must come out the alliance with the congress for being inactive in this issue. He wont do that because his government will tumble here as it is running with the support of congress. How a leader of a nation can be ignorant about the people’s good?

He has announced this bandh just a day back which can be easily taken as the poll gimmick. He didnt even concerned about how the people’s life will be affected by this. Lot of people would have lot of plans but he is dashing them just because he is in power.

If this bandh going to bear some fruit, bring ceasefire in Srilanka and keep the Srilankan governement in check from killing the civilian population I would have definitely have supported this. But nothing is going to happen out of this and for some cheap votes for the DMK alliance everything happened yesterday. Mr.Old man, please get out of politics, we will take care of our country.
